About the Trust

During early 2012 as the English Electric Units were in their Indian Summer of operations many enthusiasts wondered if any would make it into preservation, one unit had been hired from Ferrymead was due to return but the other 2 celebrity units “Phoenix” (rebuilt from a stock pile of parts) and “Cyclops” (named for its single headlight and Heritage Award winner) faced an uncertain future.  After a couple of spluttering starts Phoenix was donated to the National Railway Museum project and Cyclops was donated to the fledgling Wellington Heritage Multiple Unit Preservation Trust.

Once established the trust was offered space at the Rimutaka Incline Heritage Railway Trust site at Maymorn in Upper Hutt and activity saw the space sorted to store Cyclops which duly arrived in April 2013 having been towed from Hutt Workshops and pushed across a temporary connection from the Wairarapa line.

The Trust has a long term goal of seeing the unit return to mainline certification and heritage operation on the Wellington Suburban Network.

Adopt-a-Seat Sponsorships and Trust Memberships are available to all.
